Who we are
VPNPickr is a small, independent team of privacy enthusiasts who got tired of VPN "review" sites that rank whoever pays the most. We started VPNPickr in 2026 with one goal: help everyday people pick a VPN they can actually trust, in plain English. We buy or trial the VPNs we cover, test them on real devices and real networks, and report what we find.
How we test VPNs
Every VPN in our rankings is scored across the things that actually matter:
- Speed — real download/upload tests on nearby and long-distance servers.
- Privacy & security — logging policy, audits, jurisdiction, encryption and leak tests.
- Streaming — hands-on checks against Netflix, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, Prime Video and more.
- Ease of use — how friendly the apps are across desktop and mobile.
- Value — pricing, device limits and money-back guarantees.
Each factor feeds a final score out of 10. We re-test our top picks regularly, because VPN performance and policies change — what was true last year may not be true today.
Editorial independence
Our rankings are ours. No VPN company can pay to move up the list, change a score, or edit a review. When we criticise a product, we say so — even if it's one we earn commission from.
Advertising & affiliate disclosure
How we make money: VPNPickr is free to read. Some links on our site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you buy a VPN through them — at no extra cost to you. We also display advertising. This funding keeps the lights on, but it never influences our rankings, scores or editorial opinions. We only recommend products we'd suggest to a friend.
Our testing methodology at a glance
Every VPN on this site goes through the same hands-on process before it gets a score:
- Speed: baseline-relative download, upload and latency tests on nearby and long-distance servers, on WireGuard-class and OpenVPN protocols.
- Privacy: DNS, IPv6 and WebRTC leak tests, kill-switch pull tests, and a full read of the logging policy and its audits.
- Streaming: real attempts on Netflix, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video and more, re-tested over time.
- Value: true long-term pricing, device allowances and money-back terms.
The full process, including how the final score out of 10 is weighted, is documented on our How We Test VPNs page — and you can see every result side by side in our VPN comparison table.
